講座内容

Socratic Inquiry can be a great tool for exploring different ideas and pushing the boundaries of our knowledge to encompass previously unexplored territory. And the philosophy behind Socratic debate can be a useful tool for exploring the historical and cultural influences on our everyday life. This course's goal is to share ideas, knowledge, and experiences while practicing the techniques of Socratic Inquiry. Our focus will be on active discussion of myths and presentation of ideas in small groups and as a whole class. Various Greek myths will be introduced for discussion and further discussion of myths from other countries is highly encouraged.

講師紹介

ＧａｒｅｔｈＢａｒｎｅｓ横浜市立大学PEインストラクター: Gareth Barnes is a lecturer at Yokohama City University who specializes in TESOL. He has also been playing guitar for the last 30 years, specializing in fingerstyle guitar. His main influences are Tommy Emmanuel and Chet Atkins. Before studying linguistics, he did an undergraduate degree in music. He is also a language development enthusiast, whose Master of Research thesis at Macquarie University examines the emergence of language learner ecologies for Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning. He serves as the Publicity Officer for the Yokohama JALT Chapter and has been actively involved in TESOL and TEFL for over 18 years.
