講座内容

Jane Austen, one of Britain’s greatest novelists, was born 250 years ago on December 16th. To celebrate her anniversary we shall read Persuasion, published in1817, six months after her death. She pokes fun at snobbishness and petty self-importance in a way that can apply as much now as it did then.Emotionally contemporary, Anne Elliot, the heroine, is a woman who in her youth made a life-altering decision and had to live with the consequences. She is humble about her second chance. Today’s women may recognise themselves in Anne more than in Elizabeth of Pride and Prejudice or Emma.
